Our surroundings are a source of inspiration to my brother and myself. We live in Getxo, a town situated on the banks of an estuary near Bilbao. A journey upstream will reveal the area’s industrial past.
The effects of human activity on the natural environment seemed both dramatic and exciting to us during our childhood. The Step embodies this duality. The red oxide of its case recalls the colour of ships being built, and the shelves, the nearby woods. Many of these were felled for timber in the local mines.
Although it can be altered to suit the owner’s needs, this does not affect its strong character. The wooden shelves can be stored in the metal case in order to make transportation of the piece more convenient.

El entorno es fuente de inspiración para mi hermano y para mi. Vivimos en Getxo, sobre un estuario cercano a Bilbao. Remontando la ría se aprecia un pasado industrial.
La acción humana sobre la naturaleza nos parecía dramática y excitante de niños. Step representa esta dualidad. El rojo óxido de su caja de acero es una reminiscencia de los barcos en construcción y la madera de sus estantes, de los bosques cercanos. Muchos de ellos fueron talados para favorecer las explotaciones mineras.
Moldeable por el usuario a su gusto, no por ello pierde su fuerte personalidad. Los estantes de madera se guardan en la caja metálica, facilitando el transporte del conjunto.
